There are many requirements that you need to fulfill before you become eligible to apply for Canadian citizenship. The current requirements are as follows:

• Knowledge of Canadian history: You need to show your ability and knowledge of Canadian history, political system and overall local traditions, geography, etc.
• Tax dues: You must have filed your taxes for the preceding 3 tax years properly and on time
• Residency obligation: You need to have completed a minimum of 1095 days of physical residence in Canada within the last 5 years prior to submitting your application for Canadian citizenship
• Language proficiency: You need to demonstrate a certain level of English or French proficiency if you are between the ages of 18 and 55
• Be a law-abiding resident with no criminal offences during your residency that preceded your application and maintain that status all through the application process.
