Who is a Permanent Resident
A permanent resident is someone who immigrated to Canada, through one of many available programs, and gained a Permanent Residency status.
When you become a Permanent Resident of Canada, you will be issued a card known as the PR (Permanent Residency) card which allows you to enter Canada when traveling abroad.

If you are coming to Canada for the your first visit, this is called your Landing day. On your landing day, you do not have a PR card yet, but you have an Immigration visa that was stamped in your passport as the last step of your out of Canada immigration steps, and you also have a Record of Landing document that you submit at the airport when you arrive.
